St. Louis Blues center Robert Thomas may have revealed the immediate responses of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl following news that the Blues schemed two Oilers players.
When last month, the Blues signed defenceman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway to two-year deals, the Oilers would not have matched offer sheets for declined free agents. Broberg’s deal totaled $9.16 million, while Holloway’s was valued at $4.58 million.

In addition to the offer, the Blues compensated the Oilers with second-round draft picks as part of the transaction. During a lunch break after training, Thomas was with Connor McDavid, Draisaitl, and Zach Hyman when the news broke.
While he described the atmosphere as pleasant, he said all three did not seem happy with the situation. And as the news came over his phone, his annoyance became apparent, even though Thomas did not initially know about the situation.

Insider Weighs In On Connor McDavid’s Contract Extension
The Edmonton Oilers recently negotiated an eight-year, $112 million deal with Leon Draisaitl that begins in the 2025-26 season. Meanwhile, Connor McDavid still has two years remaining on his $100 million deal.
And then expect McDavid to sign a negotiated extension next offseason; again, if he does, it could surpass Draisaitl’s figure. NHL insider Frankie Corrado discussed McDavid’s inactive negotiated extension, to which he suggested the starting amount for a new deal is going to be around $15 million or $16 million.
Then again, Corrado believes Connor McDavid has similar strengths in communication, allowing him to dictate favorable terms for his extension.
