Monday, defenseman Jonas Seigenthaler received a match penalty for elbowing the New Jersey Devils during the second period. New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe is in the news again for all the wrong reasons after receiving this penalty.
Goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen of the Devils was hit by Rempe on the wrist of Eric Gustafsson, increasing the lead to 2–0. Shortly thereafter he caught hold of Seigenthaler by his extended elbow.
His second ejection against the Devils did not draw the ire of the New Jersey fans, who were traveling to many of the games, which meant that his second ejection was not enough, so Rempe’s reluctance to help matters. Not that Joe’s feared scrapper was to respond to the subsequent challenge of Curtis McDiarmid.
