Nelson wins it at 1:24 after Frost ties it for Philadelphia with 10 seconds left in 3rd
Scored by Brock Nelson at 1:24 of overtime. On Monday, the New York Islanders played against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center, a game the New York Islanders won 4–3. Morgan Frost turned the puck over in the Flyers zone and after doing so, Nelson won it. The puck was received by Kyle Palmieri and passed back to Nelson, who scored in the slot.
Nelson said he didn’t really feel like he was going to see that overtime without Pak. Nice job by Palmieri to stay on top of that and force that turnover. He played very well to get it.
Frost tied the score at 3-3 with 10 seconds left in the third period, and Nelson’s goal came at the same time. With this an additional attacker was pulled in by Ivan Fedotov.
Anders Lee, who is the captain of the Islanders, said that he cannot take such things so seriously that it changes their mentality. Hockey is a game in which there are ups and downs and this is quite normal. There are many mistakes in this and changes in speed keep happening. He wants efforts to be made and balance to be maintained. According to him, he responded very well in overtime.
Islanders recover, defeat Flyers in OT to gain in East wild-card race
Lee, Bo Horvat and Matt Martin scored for New York (32-27-15), as they have won two of three games. Varlamov made 30 saves in his third consecutive start, including 18 in the third period. Martin said that both the teams have given a very disappointing performance.
This game felt like a playoff game. There were a lot of emotions and a lot of energy involved. ‘Pams’ and ‘Nelly’ got a good response while it’s hard to leave one out this late.
The Islanders missed the Washington Capitals for the second wild card in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as they finished three points behind the Eastern Conference and had played one less game.
The Flyers are in third place in the Metropolitan Division with two games remaining and the Islanders and Washington Capitals are six points behind.
Patrick Roy, the coach of New York, said that what he meant was that when Frost scored the goal, no one seemed happy because everyone knew the meaning of this goal.
Noah Cates and Travis Sanheim scored for Philadelphia (36–29–11), as they lost their fifth consecutive game. Fedotov replaced Samuel Ersson at the start of the second period, making 19 saves on 21 shots in his NHL debut. Fedotov joined the Flyers on Friday after the expiration of his contract with CSKA of the Kontinental Hockey League, saying that while he is not a young guy, he has the experience so he knows how it works. It doesn’t matter to him whether he is playing from the first minute or during the game. They just want to play. His only aim is to help the team. He gives spirit and energy to the team.
Flyers defenseman Egor Zamula scored on Martin’s goal with his stick, making it 1-1. 18 seconds later, Horvat scored his 30th goal of the season, which was amazing. By scoring this goal, he put the Islanders ahead 2-1. He beat Arson Blocker side by side from the left circle on a 3-on-2 rush.
