Boston Bruins goaltending prospect, Jeremy Swayman does not have a contract as Chris Johnston noted will be losing about 45, 000 U.S. dollars per day in case the signing has not been done before the beginning of the season.
In the aftermath of games played on October 2nd, TSN Hockey Insiders Chris Johnston, Gino Reida, and Darren Dreger weighed in on dealing with Boston Bruins pending RFA goaltender Jeremy Swayman.
[0:27] “Well, let me put it this way,” Johnston said: “However acrimonious things got on Monday, there is still a week for Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins to come to their senses and go back to the negotiating table before it is Christmas time for either side in terms of actual hockey games.” This in my view is enough to make them come back for •uther negotiations after a short time of break.
Following the trade of Linus Ullmark, Swayman who is a restricted free agent is expected to be the Bruins’ starting goaltender. According to some sources, Bruins has offered Swayman an eight-year contract and his side has asked for approximately 9.5 million dollars per year.
[0:46] “But here is the advertisement for which owner Donny Nelson was mocking McKinnon: take it or leave it – if you don’t sign Jeremy Swayman before the opening night, you will not get your money, and your day rate of roughly $40,000 will be counted,” Johnston said. If the Bruins don’t sign him, then they will have to do so with much more difficulty when it’s time for them to fit him into their cap.
They said that, as Johnston pointed out, Swayman is angry with his summer arbitration hearing and the way that Cam Neely approaches contracts. He said there’s a serious $64 million offer on the table and both parties have one week to sort it out.
Disputes have arisen at times mostly due to previous arbitration concerns. The president of the Bruins Cam Neely joked that Swayman had 64 million reasons to sign.
However, Swayman’s agent, Lewis Gross, criticized those comments saying that he had never received any offer from the team’s management.
Insider Darren Dreger said Bruins are committed to Jeremy Swayman’s extension
As the insider Darren Dreger mentions, the Boston Bruins’ management is eager to make a new NHL season defenseman Jeremy Swayman. Since Swayman is restricted to free agency and any attempt at making the trade would be pointless then both sides are determined to reach and establish the contract condition in a peaceful manner.
Boston hopes to sign Swayman to a contract before December 1 when his current deal expires.
