Toronto’s Maple Leafs’ Simon Benoit becomes a father after his partner Alice gave birth to a baby girl.
This happy piece of news, Benoit’s teammate Ryan Reaves jokingly teased Benoit about the latter’s affinity for nut-based names after suggestions for a name for the newborn began to roll in.

When asked about the best ideas as to where to get the name suggestions, Benoit laughed and said, ‘These ones would be secrets.’ Yet, Reaves only made fun of Benoit, offering: What about Cashew? One thing that I fully understood regarding the jury proceeding was the reason why Benoit called his wife peanut: Reaves also privately mentioned other names that sounded like one designation below: It is, however, interesting to note that hael, which most likely resulted in another name – that of Hazelnut.
“I suggested Cashew because he calls his girlfriend Peanut. There was another one up there; it’s pronounced Aisel. It kinda sounds like Hazel, so he can do Hazelnut, I guess. I don’t know, maybe there’s something about the nut family in that (Benoit’s) family,” Reaves said.
However, despite all the jokes, it seems that Simon Benoit is pretty myopic, for he is eagerly anticipating his new role as a father.
He said that after his wife gave birth to a daughter, he has been experiencing this known energy, “dad strength.” As Benoit noted, the becoming a parent phase is more gradual anyway, and it seems that the couple spends some enjoyable time getting used to new roles. The defenseman of the troubled Leafs seemed grateful for Alice’s help in those moments before sweet slumber which prepares athletes for the battle to come.
Simon Benoit’s teammate Morgan Rielly announce birth of baby boy
Another Houstonian player and Benoit’s teammate, Morgan Rielly, has also become the father of a brand new baby, McCormick, for him and his wife Tessa Virtue.
Rielly then made a joke that either Benoit was struggling in attempts to name his baby or was just trying, noting that it appeared to be a tiny endeavor now compared to what he fights. He said that since they are in different phases of parenting, it has given both of them a fair measure of entertainment.
It was easier than whatever he’s going through,” Rielly said of Benoit’s naming dilemma (via THN).
Simon Benoit will be back in action Thursday during the preseason matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings.
